Shooting in Wind Conditions

To shoot well in conditions you must:
  • Have an established wind zero.
  •  Mentally know what is on your windage sight at all times.
  •  Establish your acceptable wind parameters, and don’t go outside of them unless the wind has stabilized somewhere else.
  • Accurately call each shot.
  • Have a rifle and ammo that perform well together.
  •  Keep a close watch on wind flags, mirage, others shooters’ targets, and any other available objects downrange to see changes.
  • Shoot a well-centered shot as quickly possible, with good follow-through.
The Shooting Fundamentals

NATURAL POINT OF AIM

Your Natural Point of Aim is achieved through:
  • sling tension
  • shoulder placement
  • the handstop
  • the cheekpiece
  • the adjustable butt plate
  • body position

Your Natural Point of Aim (NPA) is one of the basic fundamentals of shooting that you must check before you shoot. In order to achieve a high level of accuracy, you must establish a solid NPA on your target. In case you don’t know what your NPA is, it is where your sights naturally line up when you are in position. To achieve a truly relaxed prone position, your NPA must line up perfectly with your target. If you don’t check your NPA, and your position is misaligned, you probably will try to compensate for this with your muscles. When you shoot it is important that you don’t involve any muscles, because muscling your rifle can give you unexplained wild shots. The reason for this is, as you fire, your body relaxes toward your NPA, and you end up with an off-center shot.

Developing a Winning Mindset

One of the biggest steps to achieving anything in life is believing that you can do it. If you place mental limitations on yourself, you are doing just that – limiting yourself. Without fully applying yourself, you will never discover what you actually are capable of achieving. You must believe in yourself and your abilities.

To Be a Winner – You Must Think, Act, and Feel Like a Winner

To Think Like a WinnerApproach life and shooting in a positive manner. A winner thinks about all of the good things in his life and appreciates them.

To Act Like a WinnerPossess confidence without being arrogant. Hold your head up high whether or not you shot well, realizing that you will have both good and bad days. Humility is a good quality.

To Feel Like a WinnerAppreciate your natural abilities and also those that you have acquired through practice and hard work. Be satisfied when you perform well, but always think of ways to improve. Truly enjoy life and the fun of competingHave confidence in yourself.
